Smashed burgers get their name because of their thin patties. They are succulent, juicy and incredibly tasty!
Our Uncle Dave tried one at our barbecue in the summer and said it’s the best burger he’s ever tasted! What an accolade!
Ingredients (Makes 4 burgers)
For the burger patties:
- 400g Lean beef mince meat
- 1 Onion finely chopped
- 2 tsp Thyme
- 1 tsp Garlic Granules
- 1 tsp Paprika
- 3 tbsp Bread Crumbs
- 1 Egg
- Olive oil
- Salt & Pepper
To build the burger
- 4 Brioche rolls
- Gherkins
- 4 slices Montary Jack Cheese
- Saucy sauce
Method
- Add all the ingredients for the burger patties into a bowl.
- Mix together with your hands until they fully combine together.
- Split the mixture into four equal sizes and roll each section into a ball.
- Using the bottom of a saucepan, flatten the balls into thin patties.
- TIP: The thinner the patty, the better!
- Cook on a cast skillet or a flat-bottomed frying pan on either the barbecue or hob.
- Fry each patty in a splash of oil on a very high heat. Continuously press the patty down with a spatula until the patty is golden brown on one side.
- TIP: Oil the spatula to stop it sticking to the patties.
- Flip the patty and lay a slice of Montary Jack cheese on top and fry until melted.
- Build your burger using saucy sauce and generous slices of gherkins.
- TIP: If you don’t have saucy sauce, combine Tomato Ketchup and Mayonnaise together instead.
